The Indonesian men's doubles player, Hendra Setiawan, was chosen to be the captain of the Indonesian team at the 2019 Sudirman Cup. What was the reason behind Hendra's election?

BolaSport.com reported earlier, the Indonesian team will compete in the 2019 Sudirman Cup in Nanning, China, May 19-26.

The team that came down consisted of 20 athletes.

The male player consists of Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Jonatan Christie, Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, Hendra Setiawan, Mohammad Ahsan, Fajar Alfian, Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Tontowi Ahmad, Praveen Jordan and Hafiz Faizal.

While eight female player slots were filled by Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Fitriani, Greysia Polii, Apriyani Rahayu, Ni Ketut Mahadewi Istarani, Melati Daeva Oktavianti, Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja and Winny Oktavina Kandow.

Hendra Setiawan is believed to be the captain of the team.

Met in Jakarta on Saturday (05/11/2019), the Indonesian Chief of Mission team, Ahmad Budiharto, revealed the reason for Hendra being chosen as captain.

"Because the 2019 Sudirman Cup is a team tournament, we need experienced players to help the team be solid, also ensure communication and interaction with learning smoothly," Ahmad said.

"For that we need a figure who can unite the players. Among all players, we see Mas Hendra and Mas Ahsan (Mohammad Ahsan - Hendra's match partner) can provide comfort and calm," he continued.

Unfortunately, during the team's release event towards the 2019 Sudirman Cup, Hendra was unable to attend because he was sick.
